OUR VOLUNTEERS

WEYC is run by many people who volunteer their time and talents to create a beautiful sound.

Conductor – Christine Prosser

christineChristine Prosser is a native of Chatham who holds an Honours Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Windsor, where she was the Board of Governor’s Medalist. As an undergraduate, she studied voice with Roma Riddell, piano with Philip Adamson, harp with Nadia Marks, and choral conducting with Richard Householder.

A Canada Council for the Arts grant recipient, Christine’s first career was in artists’ management. While living in New York, she worked at Shaw Concerts and IMG Artists, and upon her return to Canada, she worked for Hart-Murdock Artist Management. While at Hart-Murdock, she was responsible for managing and developing the careers of such well-known Canadian artists as Richard Margison, Catherine Robbin and Jon Kimura Parker.

Upon her return to Chatham, Christine completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education, and she began teaching in the public school system. While working as a music educator for almost thirty years with the Lambton Kent District School Board, Christine also pursued doctoral studies in Education under the supervision of Carol Beynon at the University of Western Ontario. While teaching for the LKDSB, her choral groups were regularly featured in concerts with the Windsor Symphony, Orchestra London, and at the University of Western Ontario, and her choirs were consistent prize-winners in local and provincial competitions. During this time, Christine also maintained a private voice studio.

Recently, Christine was the Music Director for Studio Black’s productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Beauty and the Beast, both at the Chatham Capitol Theatre. Christine was formerly the Music Director at Our Saviors’ Lutheran Church and at St. Ursula’s Roman Catholic Church, both in Chatham, and she is currently the Music Director at New St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

Upon retirement from the LKDSB, Christine and her husband, Jim, have been able to devote more time and energy to maintaining their busy private music studio for instruction in voice, piano and theory. Christine’s voice students continue to win competitions at the local, provincial and national vocal level, and she looks forward to preparing another generation of singers for advanced musical study at the post-secondary level.
